Civ 5 Best Maps – My favorite everyday map is pangea plus. Hellblazer's pangaea is probably best if you're willing to download it. Probably the silliest mod on the list, strange religions is just a fun way to add new content to civ 5. This mod also rebalances the game for larger map generation.

I also really enjoy loading random map types, so you actually start off in the dark, and constantly learn more about your world as you explore it.
This can be very rewarding while you play.
This should give you a better understanding of unit differences with a quick glance instead of having to go through all the stats each time.
Best map, simple as that.
